APPLE LOGO TRIBUTE TO STEVE JOBS BY HONG KONG STUDENT

Facial profile of Steve Jobs in the Apple logo - a design tribute by Jonathan Mak Long, Hong Kong

When Apple co-founder, Chairman Steve Jobs resigned from his post of CEO in August 2011, Jonathan Mak Long, a 19 year old Graphic Design Student in Hong Kong created a design to honour Steve Jobs in his Tumblr blog - which is to change the bite in original Apple logo by including the side facial profile of Steve Jobs to show that, "With Steve Jobs gone,  Apple is really missing a piece." Jonathan Mak Long told in Skype interview that the image was a tribute to Job's contributions to the world. 'I wanted to commemorate him. He is such an integral part of Apple'.  He reposted this homage when Steve Jobs passed away recently, which attracted a huge response from the public.

SPIRIT OF DETROIT

When our son took us to down town Detroit, he took us to this beautiful statue, SPIRIT OF DETROIT. A once thriving city before the 60's faces the adversities of recession and economic low. Yet a visit to Detroit will certainly leave one with wonderful memories. It is a picturesque place endowed with natural beauty and lush greenery, with lots of places of interest to visit. It's the home of automobile giants like GM, Ford and Chrysler. One can only hope of Detroit with a better tomorrow. The sculpture SPIRIT OF DETROIT is something that will touch your soul, especially when you read the inscriptions. Here are some pictures I took.

The inscription on stone behind the sculpture reads "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

The 26-foot bronze statue was sculpted by Marshall Fredericks in the 1950s. The statue is of a seated man holding a sphere in one hand and a family group in the other.  The statue's plaque reads, "Through the spirit of man is manifested in the family, the noblest human relationship."

APPLE CO FOUNDER STEVE JOBS DIES OF CANCER

Apple Inc. co-founder, chairman and former CEO, 56 year old Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday, October 5,  one day after iphone 4S was unveiled. He was suffering from a rare form of pancreatic cancer since 2004. He will be forever remembered for being a visionary, a creative genius and making countless people's lives better through everyday technology. Outside Apple's Cupertino headquarters, three flags;  American flag, a California state flag and an Apple flag  were flying at half-staff.

Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco on February 24, 1955. His mother, Joanne Simple was an unmarried graduate student then and his father Abdulfattah Jandali was a student from Syria. When Joanne gave Steve up for adoption, it was Clara and Paula Jobs, a working class couple from Los Atlos, California who adopted him, raised him and nurtured Steve's interest in electronics.

QUOTES BY STEVE JOBS

Steve Jobs

We don’t get a chance to do that many things, and every one should be really excellent. Because this is our life.- Steve Jobs, co founder of Apple Inc.  (Interview with Fortune, 2008)

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma -- which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice." - Steve Jobs (Commencement speech at Standford University 2005)

"I believe life is an intelligent thing, that things aren't random," - Steve Jobs (In a 1997 interview with Time)

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” - Steve Jobs (Commencement speech, Stanford University, 2005)

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life." - Steve Jobs (at commencement speech, Standford University, 2005)

"One more thing ..." - Steve Jobs, Apple product launch June 2011
(Some of the Apple products were revealed as "But there's one more thing...")

BEAUTIFUL BAGS AT MOSAIC

I am really fond of bags and when I got myself a lot of bags during my visit to U.S. and then visited my daughter in UK, she was asked me ' Why did you want to buy so many so bags?, you could have got so many other things for yourself". That got me thinking...yeah..I did pick up a lot of bags...but I love all of them. So I decided 'NOT' to buy any bags from UK, and bought myself 'other things'. LOL. Now that was hard...when I think of the wonderful bags I saw in many shops, especially at JOHN LEWIS.  And I also told myself, okay...now I shall not shop for bags for 'sometime'.

When I visited MOSAIC in Salhiya Complex (Kuwait City), I really liked their collection a lot. They've got beautiful leather bags from Germany (Picard), Italy and some from Lebanon. They offer a nice discount as well. Though I didn't give in to temptation, I would recommend ladies who love bags, to visit MOSAIC and explore their collection. Here are some pictures I took of their bags.

LOVE AND HATE

Though Love and Hate are extremely opposite sentiments, yet, there is only a thin line between them.  In love, one is  often less critical and judgemental towards the the loved one and an attitude of love fills you with happiness,  peace, positivity and patience .  Hate can also be an all-consuming strong passion like love, however, hatred is a  distressing and destructive emotion, in which, it is likely that the hater would hold or  exercise intense animosity, distaste, dislike towards the person he hates and in extreme cases contemplate harm or revenge.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illumines it.".

UNGUARDED TALK

'Loose Lips sink Ships'

This phrase was turned out to be a slogan during World War II as part of the US Office of War Information's attempt to prevent the possibility of people giving out useful information to enemy spies. It's also true in our everyday lives, that unguarded or careless  talk can hurt others, lead  to trouble or even destroy relationships.
