CAN JUNK FOOD AND PROCESSED FOOD CAUSE DEPRESSION

Over the years, extensive studies and research were held by various universities and scientific researchers to establish the relationship between Junk Food and Depression.  Studies on  two groups of people, one who ate plenty of vegetables, fruit and fish actually had a lower risk of depression and those who ate junk food, processed food, foods high in sugar, high fat foods, refined foods were at a higher risk  for depression.

How does junk food cause depression?
Neurotransmitters, a kind of chemical in our brain, help in the regulation of mood and behaviour .The neurotransmitters that are associated with the mood changes are serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. When people eat junk food, the production of these neurotransmitters are greatly reduced, leading to a lack of energy in the brain causing early symptoms of depression.

When a person’s food choices include healthy wholesome foods, fruits and vegetables, greens, lean meat and fish, the brain and body gets the right nourishment, it has a positive effect on one’s moods and behaviour.
There is a profound relationship between food and mental and physical health.  The saying...'You are what you eat' is so true.
