IMPULSIVE PERSONALITY PLAYS ROLE IN BODY WEIGHT

In a study published by American Psychological Association based on 50 years of data, impulsive behaviour was the strongest factor in who would be overweight. Impulsive people give in to temptation and lack discipline to stay on track amid difficult and frustrating times. To maintain a healthy weight, it is necessary to have a healthy diet and sustained physical activity and both requires committment and restraint. This sort of committment would be difficult for highly impulsive people and those who have personality traits of neuroticism and low concientiousness. The research led by Angelina R. Sutin, PhD, found greater weight gain among impulsive people, those who were cynical, competitive, aggressive and liked taking risks.
