INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR ERADICATION OF POVERTY - 17 OCOTBER



Since 1993,  International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed around the world on October 17.  This day has been designated by UN General Assembly to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly in developing countries, a need that has become a development priority. The theme for 2011  is "From Poverty to Sustainability: People at the Centre of Inclusive Development".

Development is sustainable only when it includes everyone. The eradication of poverty is the greatest challenge confronting the world today and an essential condition for achieving sustainable developmentInternational Committee
