INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2012



International Women's Day (IWD) is observed on March 8, every year. Nations world wide hold celebrations focusing on gender equality, respect, appreciation and love towards women in recognition of women's economic, political and social achievements as well as to empower women, as a fundamental human right, through various means. Organizations, governments, charities and women's groups across the globe hold events to observe IWD. By empowering women, well fare and well being of families and societies are established. 

UN theme for IWD 2012 is 'Empower rural women - End hunger and poverty'

"Invest in rural. Eliminate discrimination against them in law and in practice. Ensure that policies respond to their needs. Give them equal access to resources. Provide rural women with a role in decision-making". - Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General

There are lot of women subjected to various kinds of suffering in so many parts of the world and it's a sorry plight. Women play such a huge and important role in nurturing and taking care of the family, home and children and through women empowerment, a lot of great things can be achieved. 

If you are a woman, be proud of who you are; celebrate being a woman, realize that other women are very much like you from the inside irrespective of race, color, social status, education, power or position. Encourage other women recognize their strengths and if you can, help those who are in need, in whatever big or little way.
