YANGTSE RIVER CHINA DRYING UP DUE TO SEVERE DROUGHT



Yangtse River of China, the longest river in Asia and the 3rd longest river in the world, is drying up due to drought. The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is the largest hydro-electric power station in the world.

Yangtse River is experiencing its worst drought in 50 years, forcing an unprecedented release of water from the Three Gorges reservoir. The drought is damaging crops, threatening wildlife and raising doubts about the viability of China's massive water diversion ambitions. The lack of rain is the major reason for the drying up of the Yangtze," the river's water resource commission said. Also, global warming, population pressure, and inefficient use of resources have all contributed to a nationwide water shortage.
