NAVAL SHIPS AT THE SEA?

 

There were a few naval ships halted in the sea across Marina waterfront three days ago. Noticed them during my walks. They weren't there yesterday.

James Runcie produced the documentary J.K. Rowling: A Year in the Life for ITV. He is a British novelist, documentary film-maker, television producer, theatre director, and  Artistic Director of the Bath Literature Festival.

J. K. Rowling, is a gifted and amazing talented British author of the world famous  Harry Potter fantasy series, that gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million copies and been the basis for a popular series of films.  Rowling conceived the idea for the Harry Potter series on a train trip from Manchester to London in 1990.

Rowling's life story is from 'rags to riches', in which she progressed from living on welfare to multi-millionaire status within five years. As of March 2011^[update], 'Forbes' estimated Rowling's net worth to be US$1 billion in its world billionaires list!

My daughter is a big fan of Harry Potter books and as a young child, I still remember how excited she was when she got her first Harry Potter book, followed by the entire series. Later when the movies were made, she watched every Harry Potter movie that was released. The Harry Potter books adorn her bookshelf in Kuwait, amidst a huge collection of books and novels she had during her school days. Though my daughter is now working in  England, she has told me 'not to give the Harry Potter books away', which she hold so dear.

MOBILE PHONE RADIATION : WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

People seldom or rarely keep a tab on how long during the  day do they spending talking on the mobile? Mobile addicts ought to know some facts about electro magnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones, to safeguard their health. The existence of mobile radiation is brushed off by people as nothing or insignificant. Let's not do that...Based on scientific studies here is what every mobile phone user should know.

1. Cancer experts from World Health Organisation state that mobile phone users may be at increased risk from brain cancer and should use texting and hands-free devices to reduce exposure.

2. Radiation emitted by cellphones is measured in terms of 'specific absorption rate' (SAR) which represents the amount of radio waves absorbed by the body tissue while using a mobile phone. SAR is different for different phones. SAR is the highest when a user is talking on the mobile phone. All leading mobile phone manufacturers specify SAR value in their user manual.

3. The lower the SAR value, the better. Cellphones with SAR level that exceed 1.6 watts per kg (W/kg) cannot officially be sold in U.S.,  while manufacturers in Europe has to ensure that the SAR level should not exceed 2W/kg.

4. WHO classifies mobile phone radiation on the International Agency for Research on Cancer scale into "Group 2B", or possibly carcinogenic.

5. Where the network signal is weak, cellphones emit maximum radiation!. Its recommended that the phone should be used outdoors, or move close to a window, and to avoid lifts and basements. Use a landline at home or in office. A wired handsfree is considered safe.

6. SAR value of Apple iPhone 4, is 1.17

Samsung Galaxy S2 has a SAR of 0.338

Samsung NexusS has  0.58 

BlackBerry Curve 8310 has  0.72.

7.  Electro magnetic radiation from mobile phones and towers pose serious health risks. "People continuously exposed to such radiation reported symptoms, ranging from burning and tingling sensation in the scalp, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, ringing in the ears, headache and palpitation," a report said. Children, adolescents and pregnant women should avoid excessive use of cellphones while people with medical implants should keep their cellphone at least 30 cm away while talking.

INFUNITY FOR FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT

Now that its weekend, and if you have child(dren) and wondering where you could take them to have some fun time, how about 'INFUNITY' at 360 Mall, at Level 3. I think I am being followed - I need to get away

Oh well, you are only human and you seemed to amused by me, like all others - because I look different right? You guessed it, I am an abandoned Persian cat. My Owners left me here and who knows where they are now.

See this black and white cat - he is trying to make friends with me - emm..I don't like him. Let me scare him away.

HEALTHY BREAKFAST - CHICK PEAS AND BELL PEPPERS

A very easy to make healthy breakfast. Boil chickpeas (or use canned ones). Add finely chopped red and green bell pepper, some lemon juice and salt. Add finely chopped cilantro if you wish. There you go...a healthy breakfast is ready to give you the nourishment,  energy, vitamins and minerals you need to kick start your day. You can even have an orange prior to having this breakfast, to make you feel totally energised.

FORMER MISS WORLD AND INDIAN ACTRESS AISHWARYA RAI GETS BABY GIRL

November 16 is a special day in the Bachchan family. Indian Actress (Bollywood star) and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given birth to a baby girl, on Wednesday November 16,  at Seven Hills Hospital, Mumbai. Aishwarya Rai is married to Abishek Bachchan, son of the famous Indian movie star Amitabh Bachchan and yester year actress Jaya Badhuri. Aishwarya Rai fans eagerly await the announcement of the baby's name.

Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, "IT'S A GIRL!!!!!! ".

Proud grandfather Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "T 561 - I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl !  A dada ji ... Ecstatic !!!!" Amitabh tweeted thereafter. Dada means grand pa.

LITTERING THE ENVIRONMENT

What happens after everyone enjoys a picnic or barbecue in public parks and waterfront...where does all the garbage go? the pepsi cans, empty mineral bottles, paper or plastic plates, cups, plastic bags, left over foods, packaging...well, you can see a lot of these lying around. At the Marina waterfront, there are cleaning staff who keeps picking up the trash from the ground, walkways, car park and the grassy areas and trying to keep the place clean. Now there are areas, they cannot reach, like the rocks and the sea.  Why can't people who do barbecue or bring food into the public parks, beaches or waterfront,  clean up and throw the garbage away into the bins provided, before leaving,  instead of littering the enviroment. Best part is there are garbage bins in all public parks and waterfront areas. Would they do that to their home or premises? Carelessly throwing garbage in public places, ruins the environment.  Garbage lying around besides being sore sight,   putrifies, giving rise to disease causing bacteria, attract ants, flies and roaches. Oh I almost forgot. That's not all - besides the existing litter from food, people bring their dogs for walk in the park and  dog poop is another sick sight one has to watch out for during walking. Authorities should put up big sign boards saying 'Dogs owners - do not let your dog poop in park' and 'Do not litter', 'Clean up after barbecue', 'Throw garbage in bins provided'. 

Eat, drink, have a good time in public places, but its important keep our environment clean. Now for some pictures of the litter I saw at the park.
