MY PHOTOS FOR THE DAY - OLD ARCHITECTURE DOORS, STAIRS, WINDOWS
I like to look at old architecture, it takes you on a journey into the past. There are plenty of stories woven around old architecture, for after they were built, there was a history that circled those designs that involved events, people and emotions. They revive only in our imagination when we read about it. These pictures are part of the first Court House in Kuwait.

AUTISM AWARENESS - A MOTHER'S COURAGE : TALKING BACK TO AUTISM
I had blogged about the World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, 2012. The month of April is dedicated to Autism. Recently a friend of mine who is very dedicated and spent most of her life teaching autistic students got an award for her outstanding contributions. I was quite touched as it takes great courage, patience, understanding and a lot of love to be able to teach and help improve the lives of autistic children.
Autism disorders are marked by impaired social interaction, communication problems and repetitive behaviors. The parents of autistic children for ever live in hope to see improvement. There is a whole lot being done today to understand autism - medical research, special needs education, training and mentoring aimed at helping people afflicted with autism to lead productive lives.
There is a beautiful HBO documentary 'A Mother's Courage : Talking Back to Autism', directed by Fridrik Thor in 2009, that revolves around an Icelandic woman's journey of hope as she meets scientists and autism experts in the United States and Europe, in a relentless effort to do everything in her power to understand and improve the life of her 10 year-old autistic son. The narration is by Kate Winslet. The month of April being dedicated to Autism, I wish, movies and documentaries on Autism would be screened for a few days to a week, to spread awareness among people.

WORLD'S FIRST ROBOT WITH MUSCLES AND BONES
ECCEROBOT (Embodied Cognition in a Compliantly Engineered Robot), built by Professor Owen Holland of the University of Sussex is the world's first Robot with artificial human bones, muscles and tendons. The robot has a skeletal structure and movements that can mimic the human body. The internal structure is created by using thermoplastic polymer for bones, screwdriver motors and shock cord for muscle, and kiteline for tendons. With the current impressive results, scientists are hopeful towards incorporating human like cognitive features in ECCEROBOT.

DON'T IGNORE YOUR BODY'S NEED FOR EXERCISE
If you are not one of those people who enjoy / love / appreciate physical activity, then it might be a bit difficult to get yourself to exercise everyday, worse - even more difficult to lose weight. You can give yourself all the excuses you want, but if you deprive your body of exercise, you are heading for trouble. We are not created to be sedentary. Our bodies need physical activity to keep healthy. One of the best exercise is walking. Now that spring has started, why not go for walks at the water front, or walk on the sand at the beach or in the park. Wouldn't it be fun to go swimming or join an aerobics class or a gym with your friends and watch the weight drop. If you like to dance or wish to learn dance, why not join dance classes, that way you will learn dancing as well as get exercise. If you are shy or unwilling to join any exercise class, put on some nice peppy music and dance to the rhythm or get a low to medium intensity aerobics CD, watch and follow the moves, right at the comfort of your home. If you like visiting malls, go an hour early, take a medium or brisk paced walk in the mall for 45 minutes to an hour before you look around in the shops.
I hope this motivates you to exercise...after all your health is so important; no one can 'give' you good health, it can't be 'bought'. It is something only you can gift yourself !

CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL IN JAPAN
Cherry Blossom is the national flower of Japan and is called Sakura in Japanese. Sakura festival or Cherry Blossom Festival is a beautiful event during spring season, happening right now in several parts of Japan where cherry blossoms have bloomed. The festival is held annually during April /May. 'Hanami' in Japanese, which means 'flower viewing' is an ancient custom for the Japanese people to gather in huge numbers in parks and places, during spring time, to view the beauty of Cherry Blossoms. The blossoming begins in Okinawa in January and reaches Kyoto and Tokyo and other places at the end of March or the beginning of April. Right now, the cherry blossom season has reached it peak. A few weeks later, the cherry blossoms would bloom in higher altitudes and northern areas. There are different varieties of cherry blossoms, ranging from 5 to 100 petals in a flower! The color of the Sakura flowers can be white, light pink, dark pink and purple.
Japanese people follow a tradition which is a part of Hanami, by taking part in the processional walks where there are cherry blossoms, to contemplate on the higher and renew their spirits.
