AMAZING ROBOT ASIMO FROM HONDA ROBOTICS
Honda Robotics has unveiled the new self-balancing, walking bipedal robot ASIMO, which is the latest in a long line of Honda robots, that began in 1986 with one named EO. It has several new features such as the ability to act autonomously compared to its predecessors.
ASIMO is
able to:
* become "aware" of its surroundings, including the actions of
people nearby, and alter its behavior accordingly -
* it can even predict the
path that a person will take when walking, and change its own path to avoid a
collision.
* combine input from its visual and auditory sensors and it can
match people's faces to their voices, and can identify individual voices when
several people are speaking at once.
* has a wider range of leg movement, along with
the ability to suddenly extend a leg to one side, to keep from falling over.
This allows it to walk on uneven ground, along with being able to run forward
and backward, and hop on one leg or two legs continuously and even kick a ball with its leg.
* perform tasks such as grabbing a glass bottle and removing its
twist-cap, or holding a paper cup and pouring liquid into it. Because the
fingers operate independently, it can also communicate using sign language.

GETTING MORE CALCIUM FROM FOOD
Calcium is an important mineral that your body requires for strong healthy bones and teeth, for proper function of nerves, muscles, kidneys, and the heart. Insufficient
calcium in the diet causes an increased risk of
osteoporosis, a disease that depletes calcium in the bones. The bones become weak and fragile, there is loss of height, spines become curved, and one is easily suceptible to fractures, especially in the case of women.
One way of getting calcium is through supplements. However, its always best to take the doctor's advice on how much calcium you need to take each day. High dosage of calcium from supplements raises the level of calcium in the blood, which can damage the artery walls. 500 mg of calcium is the 'safe' recommended intake per day if one is resorting to supplements and is to be taken with food that will facilitate slow calcium absorption.
The safest and best way of getting calcium is through food rather than supplements. Low fat dairy like milk, yoghurt and cheese can give you the calcium you require as well as they help lower blood pressure. Be sure its low fat. Calcium from food is absorbed slowly and will not damage the arteries. Consuming dried fruit and nuts, like raisins, almonds, dates, prunes and hazlenuts can help build and preserve calcium in bone tissue. Avocado and Broccoli are also good sources of calcium.
Low impact exercise like walking, swimming, yoga, tai-chi can strengthen your bones. Protect your heart and bones by getting natural calcium from food.

REPLENISHING YOUR ENERGY
After a hard day's work or dealing with a hoard of things, including difficult situations and difficult people..so on, you could end up feeling dull and low and as if every bit of your energy is drained. Problems to solve or issues to deal with is something we all face time to time, but don't let that ever get to you or make you depressed. Understand there are certain things, you just can't do anything about and there are things that will be solved in time. Sometimes the solution comes to you like magic. At times you have to gather courage to take a bold decision. Happiness and wellness is experienced based on how we choose to deal with the daily events and people in our life.
So how do we replenish ourselves or restore the drained energy?. It's important to dedicate some time to yourself to do things you enjoy, especially creative things or fun things. Emotional wellness leads to physical wellness too. When you do things that brings you joy, or comfort or fills you up with happiness, you are filling yourself with renewed energy. Amidst all that you have do, it's important to give yourself 'me time', so that you are never devoid of energy.
* Spending time with a good friend(s)
* Watching a nice movie
* Taking a nature walk
* Gardening
* Visiting a friend you haven't seen in a while
* Shopping (it could be even window shopping)
* Visiting an exhibition
* Attending a musical event
* Swimming
* Reading a good book
* Writing
* Cycling
* Listening to your favourite music
* Painting
* Watching or playing sport
* Trying out a new recipe
* Engaging in your favourite hobby
* Meditation
* Even catching up on sleep
Replenshing your energy does not include overindulgence in food for comfort or doing anything for momentary gratification that you would regret later.

WEIGHT LOSS - WHEAT FREE DIET
Have you been trying to lose weight, working hard, being sincere in your weight loss attempts and you are disappointed that you are not losing weight? Well, tell you what, try a 'wheat free diet'. I have been experimenting with healthy alternatives, without
starving, making sure I get the right amount of nourishment through conscious healthy
eating choices. On and off, I have been
testing wheat free diet for the past 2 months.
It all started with an article I read in a magazine, where it mentioned that doctors who put overweight people on wheat free diet, lost considerable weight. I did some research and reading on losing weight through a wheat
free program.
Let me share my experience with you. Firstly, I love bread and I always have, like most people. I didn’t
know I could live without it. I eliminated white breads, and anything that uses
white flour (refined flour). Slowly, I even eliminated brown bread. I would eat
rice, potatoes in moderate quantity as our body requires carbohydrates. I would have everything else…fish, chicken,
meat, vegetables, fruits, yoghurt, low fat cheese etc., MINUS the oils, fried
foods, and sugary foods and desserts. I
treat myself once a week to anything I enjoy eating but in controlled portions
that does not affect my weight loss program or disrupt my self- restraint when
it comes to food. Yes !!!! I lost weight on the wheat free diet and hope to continue. Oh you see...wheat free diet is different from including gluten free foods in your diet. Gluten free products contain alternative substitutes to wheat and contain preservatives and additives, which I don't really support. It's better to have foods that are not processed. Wheat free means - eliminating wheat from your diet and no artificial gluten free subtitutes. You can have brown rice or potatoes or other natural foods for carbohyrate requirement.
Wheat free diet can promote overall well being, increased energy levels, prevents
bloating in the stomach and help lose
weight consistently. This means, no breads of any kind, no pizzas, burger buns or rolls, cakes, pastries, whatever that would contain brown flour or refined flour. Ofcourse, this is not enough as you know…you have to
exercise…don’t let the cold weather stop you from getting exercise. Go for
walks, go to gym, do some aerobics at home. The important thing is you have to burn calories to lose weight... If you chose to do Yoga, do it thrice a week and rest three times, you could do a cardio, aerobics or brisk walking. It’s normal to want to eat more
during winter, but that’s when you ‘shouldn’t give up’.
In three weeks, we are entering the New Year.
Don’t wait until the New Year to begin, to lose weight. Start now…and see the
results and the stunning ‘new you’ by
January 1st. This will give you great confidence and encourage you
to continue your weight loss program when the New Year begins as well. Don’t overindulge on the following days –
Christmas eve, Christmas day, New year’s eve and New Year’s day. You can have a great time without
overindulging in food!
