CHAMBER MUSIC - BALLAKE SISSOKO AND VINCENT SEGAL

The French Embassy in Kuwait and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature will present ‘Chamber music’ by  Ballaké Sissoko & Vincent Segal,  today, November 29,  7:30 pm at Shamiya Theater, near Shamiya cooperative society. Ballaké Sissoko will play the traditional kora, which is an  18 string lute-harp from Mali, and Vincent Segal from France will perform on the cello . The African - European fusion music is bound to give music enthusiasts a chance to experience some beautiful and unique works by them. Ballake Sissoko and Vincent Segal will perform for the first time in Kuwait.

MY PICTURE FOR THE DAY - WANING MOON

This might sound funny, but I do love gazing into the sky and see what the sky canvas has on display each time I am out, especially during sunset or at night. When I was returning home on Sunday night, the waning moon looked resplendant. I had to take a picture of the beautiful crescent, which doesnot do justice to the beauty of what is seen by the eye.

Since ancient times, there are lot  of myths surrounding the waxing and waning of the moon. Now for a few myths revolving around the waning moon:

* good time to break habits,
* perform cleaning chores,
* let go of unwanted possessions or ideas.
* one might become less energetic during the waning moon, especially the last week of it
* a good time to engage in activities that increase one's wisdom
* a time to review endeavours and correct mistakes.
* settle disputes and make amends.

Hmm, personally I feel, anytime is a good time to weed off negativity from our life....

THINGS MEN CANT STAND ABOUT A WOMAN

All women know what they can't stand in a man. I thought of compiling a list of things men can't stand about a woman; things that drive them away, things that upset them, things if continued over a period of time, can strain relationships and marriages. Sometimes a woman would wonder what could be the reason. Thoughts like 'he doesn't understand me, he doesn't care, or he doesn't love me anymore, he is too busy in his own world to be bothered about me, his friends or his computer is more imporant, maybe he has another woman in his life' are some of the common thoughts that run in a woman's mind when things go wrong.

Life is never perfect and no human is. We are hardwired to behave or conduct ourselves in a particular way. Observe how one tends to feel, think, behave or react in day to day life, that spark discords or turn your man off.  One can improve a relationship and keep it strong by putting a little effort in changing one's  negative traits or habits that fuel unpleasantness, arguments or discords. In every argument between a man and woman, there lies an answer. He almost always lets you know the reason that drives him up the wall during a discord. Create positive traits and healthy behavioural patterns  in place of  negative ones. It might be a bit hard to change long time habits but it's not impossible. It can make relationships and life better and happier. I was doing a bit of research on this and here is a LIST of things men can't stand in a woman.

* Bossy
* Dumb
* Expects the guy to read her mind
* Uncaring
* Argumentative about trivials and making mountains out of mole hills
* Cannot cook
* Cribby
* Very aggressive/arrogant
* Not giving enough space to her man (always clinging)
* Wanting too many things
* Belittling him or putting him down in front of family and friends
* Always talking about other guys and comparing with her man
* Cheating
* Insensitive, cold
* Drama queen
* Always in a power struggle
* Obsessively jealous/suspicious of her man
* Too pushy
* Gossips all the time
* Selfish/self centered
* Agony aunt always offering unsolicited advise and solutions to everyone
* In law bashing
* Workaholic
* Not saying what she means
* Always critical of everything he does
* Doesnot take care of her health/weight
* Umkempt/unclean
* Whining all the time

MOTORCYCLE MADE FROM LOBSTER

Taiwanese chef and food carving artist Huang Mingbo made a motorcyle from lobster shell at a seminar on cooking art in Fuzhou, Fujian province in south east China. Amazing isn't it?

BREAD SECTION AT DEAN AND DELUCA

I like to drop into Dean and Deluca each time I visit the Avenues Mall. I enjoy their food section. This time I was looking at their Breads section, where they have beautiful freshly baked breads and rolls, savouries and little breads - Fatayers, filled with cheese, spinach, meat, oregano, freshly baked pizzas with toppings of your choice.  I picked up a cheese croissant and a fatayer filled with minced meat. Both were really good. Here are some pictures.

On Saturday, we were on our way towards the Kuwait City during sunset,  and I loved this scene I saw from the car. There was slowing moving traffic and I was able to capture this on camera.

GAMARJOBAT - SILENT JAPANESE COMEDY SHOW

GAMARJOBAT, a silent Japanese comedy show, was held at Avenues Mall, close to phase III (near Pinkberry), on Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27 at 3pm and 5pm on both days. I went to watch the 3pm show on Sunday and it was hilarious! The audience found the show quite entertaining and there were constant bouts of laughter and applause from the crowd. The silent comedy doesnot involve any conversation, except for some vocal sounds to enchance the comical effect. Ketchl - Red Mohican and Hiro Pon - Yellow Mohican's unique performance is based on a well crafted stage threatre works, humourous and energetic street performance. Ketch and Hiro Pon also did some magic tricks that thrilled the audience. A few children were invited on stage to participate in their performance and each of them were gifted a lollipop. They have performed world wide and they are selected as one of the 100 respected Japanese people in the world by Newsweek Japan. They launched a silent threatrical company, 'Gamarjobat Project' in 2010. Here are some pictures I took.

JAPANESE FESTIVAL 'MATSURI' AT SHARQ MALL

A beautiful event, Japanese festival "Matsuri' was held at the amphitheatre of Sharq Mall on Friday, November 25. The event was organized by the Japanese Embassy to commemorate the 50th anniversary celebrations of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Kuwait. My friend and I had a really nice time at the festival. The 'Matsuri' event comprised of :

1- The opening ceremony
2- Japanese Taiko drums concert
3- Japanese Folk Dance "Bon-Odori"
4- Exhibition of recovery from great disaster
5- Charity exhibition
6- Japanese culture workshop and exhibition Origami, Ikebana, Kimono

Towards the end, one of the most interesting part of the show was,  people from the audience were encouraged to join the dancers on the stage and they moved around in a circle following the light steps and hand movements as shown by the Japanese dancers. H.E. the Japanese Ambassador and his wife also joined them on stage. Here are some pictures from the event:
