LAVENDAR BLOOM IN DESERT

During the mild gorgeous winter weather, everywhere you look, you will notice several varieties of pretty yellow flowers in full bloom.

While we were driving down the highway leading to Abdally  on Friday, I noticed medium to deep violet colors amid the unending  clusters of yellow desert flowers. My husband parked the car to the side and we walked towards the flowers.  It was such a captivating sight....And what did I see? Lavender, yes it was lavender indeed, growing in the desert giving out a beautiful soothing fragrance.

Finally I got to see beautiful lavender not in some pots or in a flower shop but growing carefree in nature. I was tempted to bring some home; both little yellow flowers and lavender.  I remembered two things. When you love something like a flower, you won't pluck it, you will water it, nurture it and watch it grow. And number 2, you are not allowed to pluck any flowers from the road side or public places here, it's considered an offence!. The flowers are there for you to appreciate, admire and enjoy the beauty nature would like to feast your eyes and heart with.

MODEL WHO LOOKS LIKE AN ALIEN

Do some people hold such a misguided sense of beauty, to go the extent of changing one's face through plastic surgery to look like an alien creature from one of those science fiction movies?. Dina Leopard, a Chinese model wants to look different with slender pointed chin and unusually large eyes. Her pictures have sent a wave or controversy in China and Japan, after they were put up in the Chinese bulletin board site tt.mop.com.

CROCODILE SPA

I know there are Spas for cats, dogs, horses and elephants, but Spa for Crocodiles? Parap Day Spa in Australia is a Spa meant for humans. Couple of months back, the Owner of the Spa and her team gave a young female crocodile a bikini wax, exfoliation and pedicure. The treatment was meant to be sort of a pre-wedding pampering for the crocodile so it can look flawlessly beautiful for the mating season, said the Owner. The scaly reptile was borrowed from a crocodile research center in Darwin.    A whole team of people attended to the female crocodile giving it a full VIP treatment.

Does a crocodile need to be given beauty treatments to make it glow and shine for the mating season?! Did the crocodile even know what was being done to it. Did it enjoy the beauty treatment? Was it sedated during the course of treatment? Will Parap Day Spa continue to give beauty treatments to other female crocodiles or was it just a publicity stunt? You can share your views.

BEAUTY TREATMENTS IN SALONS SHOULD NOT RESULT IN INJURIES

In the able hands of a trained salon attendant, you could return home relaxed and thankful for the rejuvenating experience of a facial, manicure, pedicure, body massage, hair spa and so on. Do check out with friends and relatives for references before you visit a new parlour and it's best that the lady who does the facial or beauty treatment for you is already recommended to you by someone who has used her services. I personally enjoy my time at a good Salon for facial, hair spa and pedicure. The reason for this post is because I had a terrible experience almost two weeks ago at a reputed Beauty Salon, that left me with a swollen foot, ligament sprain and inflammation under my left foot after a leg massage. I had to visit an Orthopedician  at a private hospital for treatment. During the herbal facial, the attendant used an instrument to remove white heads at the side of my mouth, when I didn't have any white heads there, and the procedure left me bruised at the side of mouth. I am still recovering from both...Sometimes the Owner of a Salon might not be aware whether  the staff is really trained and experienced enough. This is the first time I have experienced something so dreadful at a Salon. Ladies please be really careful which Salon and attendant you go to.  If you experience any burning sensation, roughness, pain  or any sort of discomfort during a certain treatment or procedure at a Salon, don't hesitate to inform your attendant about it.

Let me list some injuries that are common when inexperienced and careless salon workers attend a client :

* Using the instrument for removing blackheads : If used sharply, it can injure your skin on your nose, cheek, chin or sides of your mouth.

* Chemicals used in hair straightening can sometimes be damaging to the hair and scalp, if its not of good quality or the attendant does not follow proper instructions.

* Blow drying, Ironing of hair. If the heat isn't right or done carelessly, hair can get burnt and damaged.

* Facial waxing can cause skin rashes if the face wax is of poor quality or the attendant is not experienced in doing a good job.

* Body waxing if not done correctly can also cause skin injuries and rashes.

* Avoid facial waxing followed by a facial. Do them on separate days to avoid skin rashes.

* Body massaging by an inexperienced attendant, can cause muscle pain,  ligament sprain, or inflammation that can take from one week to 3 weeks to recover. It best to massage for a short while by a trained massage therapist and without much pressure. What hurts will do you no good. There should be no pain or discomfort during massage. Never go for a massage if you already suffer from pain or injury. In that case, consult an orthopedician first.  And never allow a message therapist to massage directly on your spine; just the surrounding areas.

* Make sure that the Manicure and Pedicure instruments have been sterilized before using on  you and the creams and products have to be of good quality and procedures of scrubbing, removing dry skin and massaging should always be a gentle process without inducing any force or pain on the client's hands and feet.

* Chemical peels, microdermabrasion might not be suitable for a person with sensitive skin. Any treatment using chemicals might involve hazards.

* Certain hair restoration oils can do more damage to scalp and hair because not all types of oils may agree with your scalp.

HEALTHY LUSTROUS HAIR

Summer has begun in Kuwait, and its time to give extra care to your hair. Whatever is your hair type, massaging your scalp with warm oil an hour or two before your bath or shower, would be very uselful, encouraging blood circulation and nourishing the roots of your hair. Do this thrice a week. If you don't have time, you could do it once a week.

Magic potion for the hair
1 Tablespoon olive oil,
1 Tblsp castor oil
1 Tblsp almond oil
1 Tblsp coconut oil
4 pepper pods
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
3 fresh basil leaves
4 or 5 fresh henna leaves or 1 tsp good quality henna powder

Mix all the oils in a dish. Crush  pepper pods, cumin seeds, basil leaves and henna leaves, add into the oil. If using henna powder, just add to oil and mix well. If its thick, add little more olive oil for application consistency purpose. Heat it over the fire on really slow fire till warm (don't over heat). Take off from fire and mix well. You don't have to strain it before application, unless you choose to. Use cotton, dip into the warm oil, apply on your entire scalp and massage gently and apply oil to rest of your hair. Keep for 1 to 2 hours and wash off with a shampoo and see the difference. You might need to shampoo twice to remove traces of oil. Now this is a tip for a treatment from outside. Now for healthy hair, you should eat healthy food as well. Fruits, vegetables, skim milk, yoghurt, and stay away from too much sugar and junk food.

Talk to your hairdresser and see if you could carry this oil to your Hair spa or Parlour and she could warm it and massage it to your scalp and wash your hair for you. Carry a positive attitude and don't be a victim of stress, as stress can lead to hair fall.
