There was a wonderful response from the public when Hoppin' John Stringband performed at Abdulaziz Cultural Centre Mishrif on Thursday, as a part of International Music Festival held by National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters. Today is the last day of Hoppin' John Stringband performance and it will be held at Al Babtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry in Kuwait City, close to Central Bank of Kuwait and Arabian Gulf Road. Al-Babtain Central Library has a beautiful and large auditorium, perfect for holding concerts and can accomodate a large audience.
Alicia Jo Rabins, vocalist and member of the band, told KUNA (Kuwait News Agency), "This is our first time in Kuwait and this is our first concert ... it's our Kuwait premier and it's actually our Middle East premier." Alicia expressed her desire to listen to traditional Kuwaiti music, hoped that she would be listening to Kuwaiti music during the course of the festival. The Hoppin' John String-band provided the crowd with a historical account of each song they played.
Through story and song, Hoppin' John String Band brings alive the experience of the American laborer, farmer and people from all walks of life. This music is made for bringing people together to sing, dance and to celebrate life. Comprised of two fiddles, guitar, ba...njo and bass, this band is sure to bring you to your feet and inspire you to sing along. "This music communicates the joy of being alive," says Alicia Jo Rabins. "It is music for stomping along with, for dancing and clapping. In its stories, American history comes through."
